Summary: This role as a Band 5 Deputy Catering Lead within the Facilities Division involves overseeing patient catering, retail, and hospitality services across four sites. The position requires a strong chef background and operational leadership to ensure compliance with food safety standards and high-quality service delivery. The Deputy Catering Lead will support the Catering Services Lead and manage a team while maintaining budgetary controls and addressing challenges in service delivery. The role is permanent but may consider secondment or fixed-term opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, food safety legislation, and NHSEI standards.
  • Lead and mentor the catering team, providing resources and support.
  • Manage budgetary resources and control departmental expenditure.
  • Observe service delivery and rectify issues related to food production.
  • Provide professional catering leadership and react to unplanned challenges.
  • Conduct appraisals and personal development reviews for team members.
  • Implement effective communication systems within the team.

Key Skills:

  • Chef qualification or relevant work experience.
  • Strong chef skills and experience in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards.
  • Experience in staff management and team leadership.
  • Ability to manage budgets and control expenditures.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Desirable: Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene certification.
