Role Overview

Undertake ophthalmic assessments including:

  • Visual acuity testing (Snellen, logmar, kay pictures, Sheridan, amsler, ishihara)
  • Slit lamp examination
  • Ability to check the anterior segment of the eye
  • Ability to carry out VH examination
  • Intraocular pressure measurement (e.g. Goldmann / iCare tonometry)
  • Ability to check Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect (RAPD)
  • Visual field testing (where trained)
  • OCT and retinal imaging (where trained)
  • Ability to use autorefractor and foscimeter machines

Prepare patients for ophthalmic consultations and procedures

Assist ophthalmologists with outpatient procedures, including:

  • Intravitreal injection clinics
  • Laser treatments
  • Minor ophthalmic procedures
