Summary: We are seeking an experienced Azure Cosmos DB Developer for a 6-month hybrid contract in London, focusing on transforming core application and data engineering components for a global financial markets infrastructure. The role requires technical thought leadership and engineering excellence in a cloud-native environment. The successful candidate will develop cloud-native applications and establish CI/CD pipelines while ensuring compliance with security and data protection standards. This position is classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop cloud-native applications using Azure Cosmos DB across SQL API and Mongo API
  • Design efficient data models tailored to NoSQL principles and specific application requirements, implementing partitioning schemes and indexing strategies for optimal performance
  • Write and tune Cosmos DB SQL queries to minimise RU consumption and improve response times
  • Establish robust CI/CD pipelines through GitLab DevOps to streamline delivery and reduce operational overhead
  • Implement automated testing and unit test frameworks using Pytest, including unit and integration tests
  • Design and implement PySpark data pipelines on Microsoft Fabric
  • Collaborate with solution architects and DevOps teams to integrate Cosmos DB into microservices architectures
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and data protection standards throughout

Key Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with Azure Cosmos DB including query optimisation, throughput management, partitioning, indexing, and consistency levels
  • Thorough understanding of Cosmos DB Change Data Feed (CDF) and experience integrating and debugging Spark with Cosmos CDF
  • High technical proficiency with Cosmos DB SDKs across .NET, Java, Python, or Node.js
  • Strong PySpark and Spark distributed computing experience, with a solid understanding of Spark concepts
  • Hands-on experience with Pytest and automated testing frameworks
