Summary: The AWS Platform DevOps Engineer role is a 6-month contract position based in Birmingham, requiring strong AWS experience and active security clearances (SC & NPPV3). The engineer will work on developing and maintaining AWS-based cloud solutions while ensuring best practices in cloud security. The position involves hybrid working, with travel to Birmingham 2-3 days per week. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a 24x7 AWS environment and strong scripting and automation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain AWS-based cloud solutions with a focus on security best practices.
- Provision infrastructure using Terraform and manage VMs with tools like Vagrant.
- Automate processes in a 24x7 AWS environment using configuration management tools.
- Utilize strong scripting skills in languages such as Shell, Python, and PowerShell.
- Manage Jenkins pipelines using Groovy script.
- Work with Docker containers and Amazon Linux 2023 AMI.
- Implement system monitoring using tools like Grafana and Prometheus.
- Utilize Git, Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow for incident and change management.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience with AWS technologies (EC2, RDS, ELB, EBS, EFS, S3, VPC, Glacier, IAM, CloudWatch, KMS).
- Experience in DevOps delivery for digital or technology projects in government organizations.
- Knowledge of Windows System Update Service and DFS Replication.
- Linux system administration skills, including building and managing Linux OS.
- MS Active Directory configuration and management experience.
- Understanding of network topologies and common protocols (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP).
- Experience with Windows Group Policy Objects and access control via GPO.

Active SC clearance (that has been used within the last 12 months) and NPPV3 (that's been used within the last 6 months) are required for this role.
