Summary: The AWS Engineer role involves leveraging AWS technologies to modernize IT infrastructure and enhance system performance within a Greater Manchester-based transport organization. The position requires the delivery of comprehensive AWS architecture designs, implementation of cloud-native solutions, and automation of infrastructure. The engineer will also focus on security assessments, performance optimization, and disaster recovery planning. This contract aims to drive innovation in the rail sector through effective use of AWS services.
Key Responsibilities:
- A comprehensive AWS architecture design document tailored for the rail sector.
- Successfully implemented AWS infrastructure and cloud-native solutions.
- Automated provisioning scripts and infrastructure as code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform).
- Security assessments and recommendations for improvements.
- Performance optimisation reports and improvements.
- Disaster recovery plans and backup strategies.
- Documentation for support, troubleshooting, and operational processes.
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation, and more.
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Knowledge of cloud security best practices and experience implementing security measures in AWS environments.
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., VPN, DNS, load balancing) in a cloud context.
- Experience in setting up disaster recovery and business continuity in AWS.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex AWS environments.
