Summary: The AWS Data Platform Expert Engineer role involves leading the design and architecture of a data platform on AWS for a manufacturing client. The position requires extensive experience in data architecture and hands-on expertise with various AWS services. The contract is for three months, starting on April 13, 2026, and is classified as inside IR35. The role is based in London and focuses on both data ingestion and processing standards for enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define the target-state architecture for the AWS data platform.
- Lead the design of ingestion patterns for structured and semi-structured data from enterprise source systems.
- Establish the architecture for landing data into S3 and transforming curated data into Redshift using dbt.
- Define data processing standards, including layering, transformation patterns, reusable models, and data quality controls.
- Design metadata, cataloguing, and discoverability capabilities using Glue Catalog.
- Shape the consumption architecture for Power BI reporting, Python/Athena-based analytics, and API-based data access.
- Define orchestration patterns using Airflow for enterprise scheduling and dependency management.
- Establish platform security architecture covering RBAC, IAM, key management, and enterprise identity integration.
- Define DataOps and platform operations patterns including monitoring, logging, CI/CD, release management, and cost visibility.
- Work with engineering teams to translate solution architecture into implementation-ready designs.
- Support environment strategy across dev, test/pre-prod, and production.
- Provide architecture governance, design assurance, and technical leadership through delivery.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Data Platform Architect, Data Architect, or Lead Data Engineer/Architect in enterprise-scale environments.
- Strong hands-on architecture experience on AWS.
- Deep knowledge of Amazon S3, Amazon Redshift, AWS Glue, Glue Catalog, Kinesis, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch.
- Strong experience with dbt and SQL-based transformation design.
- Experience designing data platforms supporting both BI/reporting and advanced analytics.
