About Our AWS Contract Roles in Aberdeen
What does a aws contractor do?
Organisations bring in AWS contractors to design, build, migrate, and manage cloud infrastructure and services on the AWS platform. Contract engagements span a wide range of activities including cloud architecture design, infrastructure-as-code implementation, application migration from on-premise to AWS, cost optimisation, security hardening, and the ongoing management and automation of AWS environments. AWS contractors are in demand across virtually every sector, with financial services, retail, media, technology, and the public sector being particularly active users of AWS expertise on a contract basis.
AWS contractors are expected to have deep, practical knowledge of the core AWS service portfolio, including compute services such as EC2 and Lambda, storage including S3 and EBS, networking including VPC and Route 53, and managed database services. Infrastructure-as-code skills using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation are widely expected, as is experience with containerisation and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes or AWS ECS and EKS. For security-focused roles, knowledge of AWS IAM, security groups, and compliance frameworks is essential. AWS certifications, particularly Solutions Architect Associate or Professional, are widely held in the contractor market and are frequently listed as requirements in job specifications. DevOps experience and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines are expected across most senior engagements.
What is the market like for aws contractors?
The AWS contract market is one of the largest and most consistently active segments of the UK technology contracting market. AWS remains the leading cloud platform by market share in the UK, and the volume of cloud migration, modernisation, and optimisation work continues to generate strong contractor demand. Cost optimisation and cloud governance work has become an increasingly important source of contract engagements as organisations that moved quickly to AWS seek to bring their cloud spending under control. Rates for experienced AWS contractors have been broadly stable, with specialisms in serverless architecture, Kubernetes, and cloud security commanding premiums above the market rate.
What is the contracting market like in Aberdeen?
No other UK city is as thoroughly defined by a single sector as Aberdeen is by oil, gas, and energy. Major operators, service companies, and engineering contractors serving the North Sea sustain concentrated hiring for petroleum, mechanical, electrical, subsea, process, and commissioning engineers, alongside HSE, project controls, and commercial management. The energy transition is reshaping part of this picture, with offshore wind, hydrogen, and carbon capture projects drawing on the same talent pool and contracting infrastructure that supports conventional energy work. Outside energy, contracting activity is relatively thin compared to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Energy sector rates in Aberdeen carry a premium that can match or exceed London, reflecting the specialist nature of the work and the harsh environment allowances common in offshore and remote site engagements.
How much do aws contractors usually earn in Aberdeen?
Contract rates for aws roles in Aberdeen typically range from £495 to £855 per day, depending on the scope of the role, required expertise, and the delivery expectations of the engagement.
How many aws vacancies in Aberdeen are there on Quality Contracts?
Over the past twelve months, we have tracked over 400 aws contract roles across the site, with Aberdeen contributing to the market. Data reviewed up to September 2026.
