Summary: The Cloud Security Engineer (AWS) role involves designing, implementing, and operationalizing advanced security controls within a hybrid cloud ecosystem for a global enterprise. This position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure secure deployment practices and compliance with industry standards. The role is contract-based for 6-12 months with potential for extension, and candidates must not require sponsorship. The position is based in Manassas, VA, with a requirement for two days on-site work each week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze cloud compliance gaps, identify underlying causes, and propose actionable remediation strategies
- Collaborate with platform and security engineering teams to integrate new security capabilities into day-to-day operations
- Support application and infrastructure teams in their transition to cloud environments, providing guidance on secure deployment patterns
- Maintain detailed architectural and technical documentation for cloud security controls and processes
- Translate business and compliance needs into agile deliverables (epics, user stories) for engineering teams
- Assist with onboarding application teams to cloud security tooling and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting
- Leverage automation to improve repeatable processes and enhance security posture across cloud platforms
- Engage with stakeholders to conduct user testing, evaluate risks, and ensure the effectiveness of implemented controls
Key Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a strong focus on cloud security
- Demonstrated experience with AWS security services (IAM, Security Hub, GuardDuty, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and compute environments, including containers and serverless
- Solid understanding of DevOps principles and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Experience using cloud compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, CIS benchmarks, NIST, etc.)
- Skilled in using Agile project tools such as Jira, Confluence, or ServiceNow
- Proficient in assessing vulnerability reports and recommending remediation strategies
