Summary: The Automation Test Specialist role involves working within an Agile team to develop and implement automation test strategies for SAS Viya 4 applications. The position requires strong stakeholder management and communication skills to ensure test coverage aligns with business requirements. The specialist will also be responsible for maintaining the test automation suite and integrating it into CI/CD pipelines. This role is focused on enhancing the testing process for data and analytics platforms, particularly in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, demos, and reporting.
- Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, and Business Analysts to ensure test coverage aligns with business requirements.
- Implement and utilize appropriate automation tooling to meet business and technical needs.
- Design and implement automation test strategies and plans for SAS Viya 4 applications.
- Develop and maintain test scripts using automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, PyTest, JUnit).
- Integrate test scripts into CI/CD pipelines.
- Confirm the test data strategy to be used.
- Maintain and evolve the test automation suite for regression, performance, and integration testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in test environments, including SAS Viya containerized deployments.
- Contribute to test data management and environment provisioning strategies.
- Ensure appropriate defect management is undertaken.
- Articulate results and progress to relevant stakeholders.
Key Skills:
- Experience in a collaborative agile environment.
- Test automation for data and analytics platforms, ideally including SAS Viya 4.
- Assuring appropriate tool selection for business and technical needs.
- Setting strategy and approach for UI and System Integration based automation.
- Knowledge of REST APIs and testing API endpoints.

Role purpose / summary
Working as part of an Agile team participate in ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, demos and reporting.

Ensure that appropriate automation tooling is implemented and utilised to meet business and technical needs.
Design and implement automation test strategies and plans for SAS Viya 4 applications, for UI based Visual Analytics (VA) and Intelligent Decisioning (ID), as well as for integration testing of data pipelines.
Develop and maintain test scripts using appropriate automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, PyTest, JUnit) and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
Confirm the test data strategy to be used
Maintain and evolve the test automation suite to support regression, performance, and integration testing.
Support the integration of test automation into Git-based CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in test environments, including SAS Viya containerized deployments (e.g., OpenShift, Kubernetes).
Contribute to test data management and environment provisioning strategies
Ensure that appropriate defect management is undertaken
Ensure results and progress are clearly articulated to relevant stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in:
Working in a collaborative agile environment
Test automation for data and analytics platforms, ideally including SAS Viya 4.
Assuring the appropriate tool selection for both business and technical needs
Setting the strategy and approach for both UI and System Integration based automation
Knowledge of REST API's and testing API endpoints
Scripting skills in Python, Shell, or similar languages and associated frameworks
Experience with CI/CD tools and version control systems (e.g., Git, Jenkins, GitLab).
Data Management and profiling
Setting test direction for the automation team
Strong Communication and Stakeholder Management skills
Strong Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with SAS Viya architecture and components (VA, ID, CAS etc)
Understanding of containerized environments and orchestration tools (e.g Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
