Summary: The Automation Test Engineer role involves delivering automated testing solutions as part of a strategic change programme within a not-for-profit organization. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure high software quality through comprehensive test planning and execution. The role is based in Crawley and offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a focus on automation using C# and Playwright or Selenium. The contract is for 6 months and classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver against the test strategy and devise test plans for the strategic change programme.
- Build and maintain robust automated testing solutions.
- Support the programme through effective communication at all levels of the organisation.
- Conduct testing across all software phases including system, regression, integration, performance, and user acceptance testing.
- Assist the Test Manager and Test Leads in planning and delivering all test activities.
- Develop and execute comprehensive automated tests to ensure high software quality standards.
- Produce test collateral and gain sign off from relevant parties.
- Lead execution of the test plan and communicate risks and issues to the project.
- Define and track quality assurance metrics including defects and test results.
Key Skills:
- Extensive automation experience in C# using Playwright (or Selenium).
- Experience in C# API testing and NUnit.
- Ability to build robust, consistent, repeatable, fully automated tests.
- Experience delivering automation into the CI/CD cycle.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organisation skills.
- Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills.
- Pro-active, ‘can-do’ behaviour and attitude.
- Excellent understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

What You'll Be Doing
In collaboration with other business areas and stakeholders, the Automation Engineer will be responsible for delivering against the test strategy and devising test plans relating to the strategic change programme. They will focus on building and maintaining robust automated testing solutions. They will also need to support the programme through effective communication at all levels of the organisation including our partners. The role will involve testing across all software phases: system, regression, integration, performance, user acceptance testing and automation.
- Assist the Test Manager and Test Leads in planning and delivering all test activities for the programme
- Develop and execute comprehensive automated tests to ensure the highest standards of software quality.
- Responsible for producing test collateral and gaining sign off from the appropriate parties/individuals/business areas
- Responsible for test planning and leading execution of the test plan
- Review the project plan and ensure any risks and issues are communicated to the project
- Define and track quality assurance metrics including defects, defect counts, test result and test status
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive automation experience in C# using Playwright (or Selenium)
- Experience in C# API testing
- NUnit
- Build robust, consistent, repeatable, fully automated tests to run in parallel with high frequency
- Delivery of automation into the CI/CD cycle
- Excellent communication, planning and organisation skills
- Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills with a Pro-active, ‘can-do’ behaviour and attitude
- Excellent understanding of SDLC
