Summary: The Automation Engineer role involves developing code and collaborating with development engineers, analysts, and model builders for both on-cycle and off-cycle programs. Responsibilities include collecting and compiling non-geometric and geometric data, automating processes, and creating training materials. The position requires a strong understanding of CAD software and programming languages to enhance operational efficiency. The engineer will also contribute to methods reviews and support the CAE team with user guides and manuals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and compile non-geometric and geometric data by collaborating with internal customers.
- Operate in-house CAD software to assist in building virtual models.
- Identify automation opportunities within virtual factory floors and establish KPIs.
- Determine automation and optimization requirements, develop code, metrics, and targets.
- Convert manual processes into automated solutions through programming.
- Support methods reviews and contribute innovative ideas.
- Develop and deliver training materials for new processes.
- Create user guides and manuals for training CAE team members.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the line manager.
Key Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, VB, Java, Simulink, and Matlab.
- Good understanding of CAD software, specifically 3DX CATIA.
- Strong skills in MS Excel.
- Ability to adapt and understand new technology areas.
- Effective communication skills.
- Desirable knowledge of propulsion systems and materials properties.
- Awareness of EDU, batteries, HV charging systems, and machine learning/AI.
