Summary: The role of Product Advisor at an early-stage startup focuses on providing expert guidance on audit workflows and tooling needs to enhance the automation of audit processes. The position requires an experienced auditor to collaborate with the product team on go-to-market strategies and usability of prototypes. This part-time role involves approximately 5 hours on Saturdays and brief check-ins during the week. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in audit, particularly within a Big 4 or large regional firm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-depth guidance on audit workflows, including risk assessment, testing procedures, and documentation practices
- Share insights on customer pain points to shape go-to-market strategy
- Evaluate current tools and propose enhancements or new features aligned with industry best practices
- Partner with the product team to map out realistic auditor use cases and edge cases
- Review and validate prototypes to ensure usability and relevance for audit professionals
- Contribute to content and messaging to ensure credibility with financial auditors
- Attend weekly strategy sessions (5 hours on Saturdays) and short weekday check-ins (2–3 evenings, 30 mins each)
Key Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in audit or assurance, preferably at a Big 4 or large regional firm
- Deep familiarity with audit processes, including planning, fieldwork, and reporting
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical workflows
- Passion for technology and openness to working with early-stage startups
- CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred
- Prior exposure to audit software or financial systems (e.g., CaseWare, Alteryx, Workiva) a plus
- Comfortable providing strategic guidance in an advisory capacity
