Summary: The Audit Committee Member role involves contributing to the governance assurance framework for South Wales Police by ensuring effective internal and external audit functions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the effective discharge of the Committee's duties as per the terms of reference.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with committee members, the Police and Crime Commissioner, the Chief Constable, and auditors.
  • Prepare diligently for committee meetings and contribute effectively to provide independent assurance.
  • Support the business of each Committee meeting and facilitate open discussions.
  • Advise the Committee Chair on potential conflicts of interest.
  • Contribute to a culture of integrity, accountability, and respect within the Committee.
  • Attend other meetings and committees as necessary to facilitate the Committee's duties.

Key Skills:

  • Good knowledge and understanding of the public sector in Wales.
  • Experience or understanding of Audit Committees and strategic management, including finance.
  • Knowledge in strategic policing, cyber, fraud, technology, governance, and assurance.
  • Strategic financial management and professional accountancy qualification.
  • Understanding of the Criminal Justice System in Wales.
  • Experience in audit processes, strategic planning, risk management, and performance management.
  • Ability to scrutinise financial and statistical information and challenge reported facts.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards and the audit process.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
