Summary: The Associate Specialist role within the Global Analytical Technology Solutions (ATS) team focuses on biological quality control (QC) assays, emphasizing technical coordination for remediation and troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and improve biological QC tests through data analysis and hypothesis testing design
  • Develop and/or optimize biological QC tests
  • Coordinate technical validation of biological QC tests and qualification of biomaterials (e.g., coating antibodies, standards)
  • Plan and execute experiments, evaluate results
  • Report all laboratory activities clearly and organized, in the form of reports and standard operating procedures
  • Present technical reports to relevant stakeholders
  • Perform project-related literature searches

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or Molecular Biology or HBO/HLO
  • Experience in biological assay performance, preferably in remediation, troubleshooting, validation, and transfer of biological QC tests
  • Experience in laboratory techniques such as ELISA, AlphaLISA, Luminex, protein purification, cell culture, virus titration, PCR, microbiological techniques, haemagglutination, and/or immunofluorescence
  • Preferred experience with Minitab/Aera data analysis
  • Preferred experience working under GLP and GMP requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to focus and prioritize between multiple projects
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and international team

The Department

The Global Analytical Technology Solutions (ATS) team, covering both Small and Large Molecules, manages analytical activities across the Animal Health network. The ATS-Bio Inline Support EU team, consisting of 7 employees, provides essential support to the MSD Animal Health Quality Control (QC) laboratories across Europe, including locations in Boxmeer, Cologne, Salamanca, Krems, and Milton-Keynes. The team is responsible for the remediation and improvement of biological QC tests, site-to-site and R&D-to-site transfer of biomaterials and QC tests, and the implementation of new technologies.

The Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Associate Specialist to join our European team at the MSD site in Boxmeer. The role focuses on biological QC assays, specifically technical coordination of remediation and troubleshooting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Data/trend analysis and design of hypothesis testing for the QC laboratories
  • Technical coordination of optimization and validation of biological QC tests (e.g., antigen/vaccine batch release)
  • Examples of biological QC tests include immunoassays (e.g., ELISA), PCR, and cell culture/virus titration
