Summary: The Associate Director, Legal Counsel will provide legal support primarily for the Development function within Alnylam's Global R&D Legal practice area. This role involves advising on regulatory compliance and legal risks associated with clinical programs across multiple countries, while collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure effective legal strategies. The position requires a strong understanding of EU and UK laws impacting clinical trials and involves significant interaction with internal and external partners. The role is hybrid/remote, necessitating occasional in-person engagement at the company's offices in Cambridge, MA or Maidenhead, UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support for Development, including advising on clinical program strategies and regulatory compliance across 50+ countries.
  • Interpret laws and regulations relevant to clinical trials and assess associated risks.
  • Review key clinical documents and advise on risks related to government actions and legislation.
  • Serve as a legal expert on EU and UK laws impacting global clinical trials and in vitro diagnostic regulations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide comprehensive legal support and strategic advice on R&D functions.
  • Contribute to process improvements within the Legal department and organization.

Key Skills:

  • Juris Doctor degree required.
  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in R&D legal functions, either in-house or at a recognized law firm.
  • Expertise in EU and UK laws/regulations impacting clinical trials.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating R&D agreements.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to shifting demands.
