Summary: This role offers a unique opportunity to work as an Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) while pursuing a BSc in Audiology at Northampton General Hospital. The position involves hands-on training in audiology, including basic hearing aid repairs, patient guidance, and coordination of clinic operations. The successful candidate will engage in both practical and academic learning over a five-year apprenticeship, ultimately qualifying as an Audiologist. This full-time role emphasizes collaboration within a diverse healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform basic hearing aid repairs and maintenance.
- Offer advice to patients and their families regarding deafness and amplification.
- Support audiologists in clinic as required.
- Meet and greet patients upon arrival in the department.
- Record, monitor, and audit hearing aid repairs and consumables.
- Coordinate maintenance and calibration of the test environment.
- Maintain adequate stock levels for clinics.
- Update the Patient Management system (Auditbase) for accurate patient records.
- Engage in service development and improvement affecting patient care.
- Be aware of safeguarding issues and adhere to local procedures.
- Liaise with other hospital departments and healthcare agencies as needed.
- Provide cross-cover within the team during busy times.
- As the apprenticeship progresses, perform basic audiometry, hearing aid fittings, and detailed history taking.
Key Skills:
- Direct experience working in a role dealing with the public.

- NVQ3 or equivalent level of education, training, or experience.
