Summary: This role offers a unique opportunity to work as an Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) while pursuing a BSc in Audiology at Northampton General Hospital. The position involves hands-on training in audiology, including basic hearing aid repairs, patient guidance, and coordination of clinic operations. The successful candidate will engage in both practical and academic learning over a five-year apprenticeship, ultimately qualifying as an Audiologist. This full-time role emphasizes collaboration within a diverse healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic hearing aid repairs and maintenance.
  • Offer advice to patients and their families regarding deafness and amplification.
  • Support audiologists in clinic as required.
  • Meet and greet patients upon arrival in the department.
  • Record, monitor, and audit hearing aid repairs and consumables.
  • Coordinate maintenance and calibration of the test environment.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels for clinics.
  • Update the Patient Management system (Auditbase) for accurate patient records.
  • Engage in service development and improvement affecting patient care.
  • Be aware of safeguarding issues and adhere to local procedures.
  • Liaise with other hospital departments and healthcare agencies as needed.
  • Provide cross-cover within the team during busy times.
  • As the apprenticeship progresses, perform basic audiometry, hearing aid fittings, and detailed history taking.

Key Skills:

  • NVQ3 or equivalent level of education, training, or experience.
