Assistant Signal & Telecoms Maintenance Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Signalling & Telecoms Maintenance Engineer to support the safe and effective delivery of maintenance activities across signalling and telecommunications assets. Working within a busy operational railway environment, you will provide technical support, assist with engineering duties, and help ensure asset reliability, compliance and performance standards are maintained.

This role will involve supporting maintenance delivery teams, undertaking technical activities, monitoring asset performance and contributing to continuous improvement across signalling and telecoms systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Signalling & Telecoms Maintenance Engineer in delivering maintenance engineering activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to delivery teams as required.
  • Assist with monitoring asset performance, reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Support fault finding, failure investigations and rectification activities.
  • Undertake technical inspections, surveys and condition assessments.
  • Assist with assurance activities, including compliance checks and technical reviews.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, databases and asset information systems.
  • Support the review of work plans, method statements and engineering documentation.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are delivered safely and in line with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with operational and engineering teams to improve asset performance and reliability.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Relevant technical competence in Signalling and/or Telecoms engineering.
  • Experience of railway maintenance delivery processes and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety, assurance and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of the operational railway environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and engineering practices.
  • Experience of fault investigation and rectification techniques.
  • Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a technical delivery team.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent technical qualification.

Additional Requirements

  • IRSE Licence holder (for Signalling-focused roles).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of coaching, mentoring or supporting the development of others.
  • Knowledge of wider railway engineering disciplines.
