The Assistant Project Manager at Urenco, based in Capenhurst, will play a critical role in managing and delivering low complexity projects (typically <£2m in lifecycle cost) through their full lifecycle. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager and Programme Lead, you will be responsible for setting up projects, coordinating reviews, ensuring timely delivery within budget, and maintaining quality standards. This role requires proactive risk management, stakeholder relationship building, and extensive project management expertise. Additionally, you will support larger projects (up to £30m) as directed by senior project managers and programme leads. In addition to managing their own projects Assistant PMs will also work in support of Projects Managers or Senior Project Managers on larger Cat1 / Cat2 projects up to circa £30m as directed by their relevant Senior Project Manager & Programme Lead. Due to the nature of the matrix organisation that operates within Capital Programme Delivery and the varying size of projects within each project programme it is possible that an Assistant Project Manager could report into a Senior Project Manager and Programme Lead, Senior Project Manager or Project Manager.
Ensure safe and compliant delivery of all aspects of projects, acting as a role model throughout the project delivery. Overall responsibility for the delivery of Projects to meet Safety, Scope, Cost, Schedule and Business benefit objectives. Ensuring communication of strategy, objectives and benefits to all stakeholders whilst implementing the organisational strategy to achieve maximum business benefit. Work in conjunction with the Project Manager, Quality Manager and Construction Manager to ensure that all works meet the Quality and HSE requirements. Manages relationships and communications with external stakeholders and internal stakeholders at various organisational levels. Ensures timely and concise project reporting, working with project controls professionals to facilitate the management of their projects and comply with Urenco project governance procedures (group procedures). Manage a high performing project, ensuring flawless integration of all sub-disciplines and functions throughout the project lifecycle. Be familiar with the basis of the estimate, scope and schedule and identify any potential changes, which may affect cost or schedule, as early as possible. Ensure Urenco’s commercial position is robustly protected and improved for their projects through the application of good industry practice in contracting strategies, supplier selection, procurement, contract negotiation and contract management. The role will ensure knowledge is retained and transferred inter-Urenco and undertake lessons learned reviews to promote continuous improvement in all planning and scheduling practices. Prepare basis of estimates for changes and work as part of the project team to ensure that these are coordinated and delivered on time. Ensures that all foreseeable project risks and opportunities are adequately identified and actively managed to provide mitigation to ensure predictable project delivery outcomes.
Education and qualifications Educated to Degree level or hold demonstrable relevant equivalent experience within both regulated industry and projects environment. Professional Project Management Qualification / Accreditation such as APM PMQ or PMI PMP (Bachelor’s Degree Level at Level 6). If not already held, must be working towards or willingness to obtain.
