ABOUT BRASS TACKS COMEDY
Brass Tacks Comedy is an independent comedy production company based in Scotland. We produce stand-up shows and support comedians through the full Fringe journey, with a strong focus on artist-first support. The Assistant Producer will play a key role in helping us scale that support while keeping operations organised, responsive, and artist-focused.

ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a highly organised, proactive individual to support our Fringe 2026 programme. The Assistant Producer role is varied and hands-on, combining pre-Festival admin, on-the-ground logistics, and day-to-day coordination during August This is a freelance role ideal for someone with festival, events, stage management, or producing experience who enjoys being hands-on, people-focused and unflappable under pressure.

KEY DETAILS
Contract type: Freelance
Location: Edinburgh based during Fringe (with some administrative and training days pre-Fringe which could be done remotely if necessary)
Fee: A total contract fee of £3,375 (equating to £15 per hour)
Dates: 5-6 days per week from 3rd to 30th August, with approx 5-6 days in the lead-up (flexible on dates but between June and July)
Working hours: Irregular and festival-based. Expect evenings, weekends, and some early starts. Time off will be scheduled in advance.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Street Team Management
    Ensuring each member of the team is well looked after, equipped with flyers, properly briefed and working well. Run daily briefings and debriefs during Fringe, including:
    Targets for the day
    Key messages, offers, or quotes to push
    Gathering feedback on what is working on the streets
    Monitor performance and morale, resolve any issues promptly, and escalate concerns to the Lead Producer when needed
    Track street team hours, attendance, and basic effectiveness (eg which slots or locations correlate with better sales)
  • On The Ground Producing Support (Fringe Delivery)
    You will provide practical operational support across show delivery throughout August
    Be a first-line practical contact for artists around schedules, logistics, and day to day issues (while flagging any complex issues to the Lead Producer)
    Liaise with venue front of house, tech, and box office teams where operational follow up is needed
    Support distribution of tech briefs, including attending tech rehearsals and basic tech management of shows if required
    Assist with small crisis responses such as weather cancellations, queuing issues, or late-running audiences, keeping calm and solution focused
  • Marketing & PR Support (Execution)
    Work with the Lead Producer to translate sales priorities into street team focus and simple on the ground tactics
    Help ensure posters, flyers, and key visuals are stocked and distributed efficiently
    Log key marketing and press moments (eg major reviews, pull quotes, awards news) into trackers so they can be used in social content and flyering
    When needed, assist with simple copy or template based social posts, pulling quotes, or preparing information
    Keep an eye on what is cutting through on the streets and online, feeding those insights back to the team
    Some basic content capture i.e. sold out boards, photos of acts etc

WHO YOU ARE

  • Essential
    Experience in live events, theatre, comedy, festivals, or similar environments
    Comfortable leading small teams, handling rotas, and giving clear instructions
    Highly organised, reliable, and able to juggle multiple moving parts at once
    Strong communicator who can adapt tone for artists, street team, and venue staff
    Calm under pressure, good judgment, and able to escalate appropriately
    Alignment with BTC’s values: artist first, inclusive, community minded, and integrity driven
    Willing and able to work long days, evenings, and weekends across the Fringe run
    Competent with basic digital tools (Google Drive, shared documents, spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups etc)
  • Desirable
    Previous experience at the Edinburgh Fringe or a similar multi venue festival
    Experience managing or working as a flyerer or brand ambassador
    Knowledge of the UK comedy landscape and audience
