Summary: The Assistant Management Accountant role is a hands-on finance position within a growing, PE-backed infrastructure business in Warrington. The successful candidate will support the financial control team with monthly management accounts, fixed asset accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations, while also engaging in budgeting and forecasting activities. Key Responsibilities:
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, accurately recording additions, disposals, and transfers.
- Oversee depreciation and ensure correct accounting treatment in line with policy and accounting standards.
- Help track actual capex spend against budget and forecast.
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger postings.
- Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities.
- Support budgeting and forecasting, particularly around capex, in collaboration with the FP&A team.
- Work closely with other departments to gather financial data and provide insights where required.
- Assist with internal and external audit processes, providing schedules and documentation as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate financial processes and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
Key Skills:
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
- Hands-on experience with fixed asset accounting, accruals, and prepayments.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software.
- Comfortable working with large datasets across multiple systems.
- Highly detail-oriented and able to work under pressure.
- Proactive and willing to take ownership, suggest improvements, and learn quickly.
- Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-moving, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Desirable: Part-qualified accountant (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a PE-backed or high-growth finance team.
