Summary: This role as an Assistant Management Accountant focuses on supporting the Finance Business Partner for the Retail sector, which encompasses a significant number of UK and international stores. The position involves month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and business partnering to enhance financial performance. The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-volume finance environment, preferably within retail, and will be working towards an accountancy qualification. This role offers a pathway to a qualified Management Accountant position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post period end journal entries ensuring accurate recording of all costs in a timely manner.
- Complete robust balance sheet reconciliations to agreed deadlines with all reconciling items investigated and resolved promptly.
- Investigate and prepare narrative explaining variances to budget and prior year for key expense categories.
- Support the Finance Business Partner with the preparation of reporting to communicate performance to the management team.
- Identify drivers of overspend, prepare ad hoc analysis and develop recommendations to reduce finance risk.
- Develop and mature stakeholder relationships across the Retail team.
- Support the budgeting and forecast process, liaising closely with the Commercial Finance team.
- Significant involvement in the year-end process, preparation of deliverables for the audit and key contact for the auditors during the audit process.
- Support the development of a robust control environment by continuously identifying opportunities to improve financial systems and processes and by implementing these changes.
- Ongoing non-business as usual project work within the finance team as and when required.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 3 years experience working within a Finance team in a high-volume environment.
- Retail industry experience strongly preferred.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and a desire to drive improvements in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial business.
- Excellent numeracy and IT skills including advanced Excel with a strong attention to detail.

This role is focused towards our Retail business, which includes 250 UK stores and 100 international locations in Europe, Canada, USA and New Zealand. As part of a team of 4 you will provide support to the Finance Business Partner for Retail who has overall responsibility for business partnering, periodic reporting and financial accounting and control.
