Summary: The Assistant Director Legal & Democratic Services & Monitoring Officer is responsible for leading the Council's legal, democratic, and information governance services, ensuring effective governance and compliance. The role requires a qualified solicitor with unitary experience, particularly in Children’s Services, and involves advising senior management on legal matters. The position may be part-time or full-time and includes attendance at Council meetings. The officer will also manage significant budgets and promote a culture of value for money across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Council’s legal, democratic, and information governance services.
- Develop and implement strategies and policies for excellent governance.
- Advise the Corporate Leadership Team on legal and governance solutions.
- Manage budgets and ensure effective use of Council resources.
- Promote cross-organizational teamwork and collaboration with partners.
- Model a value for money culture and drive cost reduction initiatives.
- Accountable for corporate duties including member briefings and compliance.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Solicitor.
- Experience in unitary authority settings, particularly in Children’s Services.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Expertise in legal and governance frameworks.
