Summary: The Assistant Director for Community Safety will lead the Council's initiatives to enhance community safety, resilience, and surveillance systems in Greater London. This role involves managing a multidisciplinary team to reduce crime, protect vulnerable populations, and ensure effective emergency preparedness. The position requires extensive experience in community safety within a local authority context and includes oversight of significant budgets and staff. The role is offered on a contract basis with hybrid working arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Community Safety Strategy, including CCTV operations, anti-social behavior (ASB) reduction, and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) support services.
- Lead emergency planning and resilience initiatives, ensuring compliance with national frameworks and rapid response to crises.
- Represent the Council at regional/national forums (eg, policing bodies, safeguarding boards) to influence policy and secure funding.
- Manage a 10m+ revenue budget and 130+ staff, driving efficiency and innovation in service delivery.
Key Skills:
- Extensive experience in a similar role, specifically within Community Safety in a Local Authority context.
- Proven experience leading and managing Community Safety Teams, delivering impactful outcomes in crime reduction and public safety.
- Hands-on experience in emergency planning and response, including being on-call as part of an emergency response framework.
- Local Authority experience is essential.
