Assistant Commercial Manager

A public sector organisation based in London is seeking an Assistant Commercial Manager to join its Corporate Services Procurement & Commercial team, supporting the delivery of a varied portfolio of procurement projects across the Greater London Authority (GLA) Group.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement or commercial professional looking to take ownership of end-to-end procurement activities while supporting high-profile social impact initiatives across London, including rough sleeping programmes, warmer homes projects, domestic abuse support services and retrofit programmes.

This is an initial contract until mid-December with a daily rate up to £361.17 per day inside IR35 via an Umbrella company, the role is based in Central London with hybrid working available (2 days per week in the office).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement activities from initial planning through to contract award.
  • Manage low-value and selected higher-value procurements up to approximately £5m.
  • Draft Requests for Proposal (RFPs), procurement documentation and governance papers.
  • Prepare pricing schedules, evaluation documentation and approval submissions.
  • Support the development of procurement and category strategies.
  • Review and draft contracts, manage contract variations and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Analyse sourcing options and recommend effective routes to market.
  • Support supplier and contract management activities, including performance monitoring and risk management.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
  • Promote responsible procurement, value for money and commercial best practice.

What We're Looking For: Essential Experience

  • Experience working within a procurement, commercial or purchasing role.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end procurement lifecycle management.
  • Ability to draft clear, concise procurement documentation and governance papers.
  • Knowledge of procurement regulations and governance processes.
  • Contract management and supplier management experience.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple competing priorities.
