We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Area Technical Manager to provide leadership and assurance across Safe Systems of Work and statutory compliance within a complex defence estate. This role is critical in supporting the effective implementation of JSP375, ensuring consistent standards, technical governance and safe operational delivery across multiple sites. You will provide professional oversight and guidance to Authorised Persons (APs), supporting them in the practical implementation of JSP375 and ensuring compliance across planned, reactive and Billable Works activities. This includes reviewing competence assessments for Skilled Persons, overseeing the quality and consistency of Risk Assessments and Method Statements, supporting Permit to Work processes and contributing to structured risk management across the estate. Working closely with operational teams, supply chain partners and client stakeholders, you will ensure that statutory and mandatory maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual requirements. You will support the management of site risk registers, attend risk meetings, and drive improvements by reducing corrective actions and embedding standardised processes across the region. The role also carries commercial and stakeholder accountability. You will contribute to the development of ESTS, FASP and related estate documentation, ensuring that operational delivery aligns with budgetary targets and value for money principles. Through strong communication and sound judgement, you will help manage contract risk and stakeholder expectations while maintaining high standards of technical compliance. A key aspect of the position is people leadership and mentoring. You will line manage Authorised Persons across multiple sites, supporting their ongoing professional development, training plans and familiarisation across assets. You will promote knowledge sharing, best practice and continuous improvement across the AP network, while building strong working relationships with Heads of Establishment, DIO representatives and end users.

About You

You will hold an HND (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, alongside JSP375 technical knowledge/qualifications, emergency first aid, fire safety training and a management-level Health & Safety qualification such as SMSTS. You will have significant practical experience implementing Safe Systems of Work and overseeing the operational delivery of compliance frameworks within a regulated environment. It is essential that candidates currently hold Electrical AP tickets to be considered for this position. You will demonstrate strong problem-solving ability, sound technical judgement and the confidence to influence at all levels. Experience supervising site operations, managing technical staff and coordinating resources to meet defined priorities is essential. Familiarity with asset management systems such as Maximo and the Billable Works process is desirable, along with membership of a relevant professional body. This is a multi-site role requiring mobility, a full driving licence and participation in an on-call rota. You will be comfortable working independently with light-touch line management, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and performance in a dynamic operational environment. Due to site requirements, candidates must obtain and maintain SC Clearance as a condition of employment. If you are a technically credible leader with a strong compliance background and a passion for raising standards, this is an excellent opportunity to shape safe and consistent delivery across a major defence contract.
