Approved Mental Health Professional

Summary: The Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) role involves coordinating mental health assessments and ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act within a supportive team in Lancashire. The position requires managing complex cases, providing emergency duty responses, and ensuring high-quality social care delivery. The AMHP will also engage with various stakeholders to facilitate the least restrictive alternatives to compulsory admission and safeguard vulnerable individuals. Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate mental health assessments and apply principles of the Mental Health Act.
• Provide statutory emergency duty responses outside of office hours.
• Manage safeguarding risks and deliver social care in a multiagency environment.
• Conduct assessments and arrange hospital admissions or alternative interventions.
• Ensure effective safeguarding interventions and manage investigations and protection planning.
• Apply the Mental Capacity Act and seek least restrictive alternatives to compulsory admission.
• Make immediate decisions in high-risk situations and engage informal supports.
• Prepare and produce high-quality written documentation.

Key Skills:

• Professional Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
• Qualified AMHP with post-qualification experience in complex cases.
• Ability to work out of hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
• Strong decision-making skills in high-risk situations.
• Experience in safeguarding and managing social care interventions.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Knowledge of mental health legislation and associated Codes of Practice.
