Summary: As a Civil Engineer Technician Apprentice, you will contribute to transport projects aimed at enhancing road safety and alleviating congestion in South Gloucestershire. You will work within the Design Team to produce detailed design plans and documents, as well as assist the Assess and Decide Team in evaluating requests for highway improvements. This role offers hands-on experience in engineering design, stakeholder engagement, and the use of specialized software. The apprenticeship lasts for 36 months and includes day release learning at Weston College.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in producing detailed design and construction plans for traffic management and active travel schemes.
- Consult with the public and produce legal orders for design compliance.
- Investigate and assess requests for highway improvements, collecting and analyzing data.
- Learn to design highway and transport projects and produce outline designs.
- Utilize AutoCAD, GIS mapping software, and other tools to create engineering drawings.
- Engage with stakeholders, including residents and officials, during consultations.
- Improve Microsoft Office skills through documentation and communication tasks.
Key Skills:
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A to C/4 to 9), including English and science.
- Grade B/6 in maths as an entry requirement for Weston College.
- Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work.
- Effective IT and numeracy skills for updating information systems.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Enthusiasm for street improvements and highway engineering.
