Summary: The Apprentice Planner role at BAM offers a full-time apprenticeship focused on civil engineering and rail infrastructure, specifically within the TransPennine Route Upgrade project. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and programming of rail projects.
  • Work closely with experienced planners and project teams.
  • Develop an understanding of planning and programming practices.
  • Apply knowledge of health and safety policies in duties.
  • Contribute to identifying and managing health and safety risks.
  • Assist in sequencing activities and estimating durations for work programmes.
  • Gain proficiency in various planning software and platforms.
  • Understand the integration of planning with project controls and risk management.
  • Support monitoring, control, and progress reporting for ongoing projects.
  • Develop awareness of BIM Execution Plans and Common Data Environment.
  • Support the production of 3D models and understand 4D, 5D, and 6D requirements.
  • Learn specialist planning techniques and innovative project management approaches.
  • Manage and report on project data effectively.
  • Understand commercial and contractual implications at each project lifecycle stage.

Key Skills:

  • GCSE grade 5 (B) or above in Maths and English Language.
  • 3 additional GCSEs (or equivalent) grade 4 (C) or above.
  • 2 x STEM A-Levels (desirable).
  • Disciplined and able to manage studying alongside a busy job role.
  • Highly numerate with attention to detail.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willing to work on-site and travel as required.
  • Punctual, reliable, and committed to delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home as necessary.

What will you be doing?

As an Apprentice Planner, you will play a crucial role in supporting the planning and programming of rail projects. You will work closely with experienced planners and project teams to ensure project success while learning industry best practices. You will learn to;

  • Develop an understanding of planning and programming practices.
  • Apply knowledge of health and safety policies in your duties.
  • Contribute to identifying and managing health and safety risks in planning and programming.
  • Assist in sequencing activities and estimating durations for programmes of work.
  • Gain proficiency in various planning software and platforms.
  • Understand planning's integration with project controls, risk management, estimating, and commercial functions.
  • Support monitoring, control, and progress reporting for ongoing projects.
  • Understand production rates, methods, and the importance of capturing lessons learned.
  • Develop awareness of BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and the use of a Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Support the production of 3D models and understand 4D (planning sequence), 5D (commercial workflows), and 6D (handover requirements).
  • Specialist planning techniques and innovative approaches in project management.
  • How to manage and report on project data effectively.
  • The commercial and contractual implications at each stage of the project lifecycle.

What You'll Need

Essential
