Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the Estates and Facilities Team, the wider organisation and contractors.

  • Responsible for the management and safety of contractors on site.
  • Be prepared to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • Responsible for managing service shut-downs safely whilst minimising operational impact.
  • Manage conflict and emotional situations with stakeholders.

  • Provide support and guidance to other project managers within the trust.
  • Be conversant with design drawings, specifications, schedules and other relevant documents on engineering.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust with this role; we are seeking a practical and quality-focused Apprentice Estates Officer to assure high quality engineering services are at the core of what we do here at WSFT. As an estates apprentice, you will learn how to lead on high-quality technical work and ensure engineering compliance and safety is at the heart of everything we do. You will be based at West Suffolk Hospital but will be required to visit other sites across the West Suffolk area. You will be required to undertake an apprenticeship in Building Services Engineering Technician Level 4 (circa 27 months) and once completed progressing onto and completing Building Services Site Management Apprenticeship Level 6 (circa 3 years)

As an apprentice you will be working towards these whilst undertaking on the job training:

  • Provide technical support to the Estates and Facilities Team, the wider organisation and contractors.
  • Act as Project Manager for minor engineering works
  • Contribute to the maintenance and updating of the master estate records
  • Responsible for the management and safety of contractors on site
  • Be prepared to work outside normal office hours when required
  • Responsible for managing service shut-downs, (heating, water, electrical, cranes lifts etc.) safely whilst minimising the operational impact, both to staff and patients
  • Manage conflict and emotional situations with stakeholders whilst being clear on the direction required to achieve overall engineering excellence
  • Uphold and champion the Trust values
  • Provide support and guidance to other project managers within the trust
  • Be conversant with design drawings, specifications, schedules and other relevant documents on engineering
