Summary: The Application Operations Engineer role involves supporting a significant digital transformation project, specifically migrating from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 within a government environment. The position requires hands-on involvement in troubleshooting migration issues, managing data challenges, and providing user support during this critical transition. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure a smooth migration process and maintain effective communication with stakeholders. This role is based in London, Bristol, or Manchester and requires active SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting as a key point of contact for data remediation linked to the move from Google Workspace to M365
- Troubleshooting migration issues across Google Workspace and AODocs
- Modifying data using user interfaces, admin consoles, and API tools such as GAM
- Managing and triaging incoming migration issues
- Maintaining regular contact with users to understand needs and resolve challenges
- Building effective working relationships with the Microsoft migration team
- Supporting the Digital Records Management team with the AODocs document library
- Working with the Project Delivery team on the migration of data out of Google Workspace
- Creating documentation, training materials, processes, and service desk knowledge articles
Key Skills:
- Active SC clearance
- Experience working in 3rd line support within a busy IT support environment
- Experience in data migrations and migration tools
- Strong experience using Google Apps Manager (GAM)
- Experience managing SaaS-based messaging platforms such as Google Workspace and Office 365
- Confidence dealing with senior stakeholders and VIP users
- Experience with AD, MS Exchange, and SharePoint (desirable)
- Experience managing and administering Microsoft 365 and SharePoint (desirable)
- Good understanding of change management principles relating to messaging platform change (desirable)
- Experience with document management systems such as AODocs (desirable)
- Experience managing a large Google Workspace domain, including third-party tools (desirable)
- Technical skills in troubleshooting and investigation, GAM commands, Google Drive, Google Workspace administration

Application Operations Engineer London / Bristol / Manchester | SC Cleared £550 per day Umbrella / £403.46 per day PAYE 12-month contract Insight Executive is supporting our client on a major digital transformation programme and is now looking for an Application Operations Engineer to join the team. This is an opportunity to play a hands-on role in a high-profile migration programme, supporting the move from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 across a large and complex government environment. Working within the Chief Digital Information Office , you will join the Digital Enterprise Services team , which provides and supports infrastructure, telephony, networks, WiFi, cloud capability, end-user devices and software across the Cabinet Office estate. Reporting to the Cloud Operations Manager , you will play a key role in migration remediation activity , helping to resolve issues, manage data challenges and support users during a critical phase of change.
