Summary: The role of Senior Application Engineer involves developing a modern financial data platform on Azure for a leading insurance and reinsurance company. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to deliver essential services for accounting and reporting, while also mentoring junior engineers. The position offers a hybrid working arrangement with a full-time commitment until the end of 2025. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience in software engineering, particularly in financial services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement backend services for a modern Azure-based lakehouse architecture.
- Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions using Python and PySpark.
- Take end-to-end ownership of application architecture and drive scalable implementation of financial data processing services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business, IT, and DevOps to ensure high-quality delivery.
- Ensure strong test automation and contribute to continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
- Support quarterly closing cycles and ensure smooth operation of applications.
- Coach junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.
Key Skills:
- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in financial services.
- Strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Solid understanding of Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Spark-based environments.
- Proven experience in full software development lifecycle, test-driven development, and agile methodologies.
- Good knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in English (German is an advantage).
