Summary: The Application Architect role involves leading the Application Architecture domain within a central government department, focusing on developing technology strategies and reusable patterns. The position requires collaboration with senior stakeholders to influence budget decisions and ensure alignment with architectural principles. The architect will also engage in investment case development and oversee the design and delivery of IT services. This role is pivotal in driving innovation and maintaining architectural standards across business and technology domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and activity managing part of the strategic architecture team to provide architecture resource to business and/or technology domains.
- Responsibility for the review and output of your team, e.g. architectural visions, roadmaps, and technical requirements.
- Lead architectural engagements with one or more business or technology domains.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand and help to shape the strategy and vision.
- Develop and maintain the architecture vision and roadmaps.
- Be a key stakeholder in investment case development and Whole Life Costing for the delivery of business and IT services and change.
- Proactively engage with Innovation colleagues to identify needs and opportunities for the exploitation of emerging technologies and drive senior leaders to support business sponsorship to explore new technologies and prove value through the delivery of Proofs of Concept or Pilots.
- Define, develop, and maintain appropriate standards and patterns for operational and technology domains to guide their use and implementation.
- Ensure that the design of end-to-end business and IT services and changes are consistent and confirm with strategy, architectural principles and standards and are supportable, sustainable, appropriately governed and deliverable.
- Assure the work of other colleagues and suppliers, challenging and escalating when required. Provide mentoring within teams and provide leadership by embodying architectural best practice to other architects and business stakeholders.
- Work together with commercial colleagues to provide consistent input to tender materials and conduct supplier and product evaluation.
- Actively support and contribute to the Architecture Profession’s aspects of the team’s functions by providing insight and first-hand experience.

Your new role
Application Architecture is responsible for ensuring the strategy is built, agreed, and followed for their domain. The role will be responsible for the Application Architecture domain for my client. You will be part of the wider Strategic Architecture team and will work to develop and produce technology direction, strategies and re-useable patterns. The role will not have direct responsibility for a budget, but they will play a significant role in influencing budget decisions. The role is essential to communicating with senior stakeholders across the group, actively seeking opportunities for improvement.
What you'll need to succeed
This role will support the development of investment cases for the delivery of business and/or IT change and follow-through into the design and delivery of new business and IT services, ensuring that solutions are designed consistently and in conformance with the architectural principals and standards where applicable, and deliver against business and user needs and in the most effective way possible.
