Technical Architect - Requirement Notes Overview The client is looking for a highly technical and hands-on Technical Architect who can bridge the gap between solution architecture and engineering delivery.
Previous Solution Architects have operated at too high a level, resulting in gaps between business requirements, architecture designs, and implementation.
They need someone who can comfortably operate across both architecture and engineering disciplines.
Key Challenges Existing architecture capability has been too high-level and hands-off.
Significant gaps have emerged between business requirements, architectural designs, and engineering delivery.
The successful candidate must be able to understand business requirements, translate them into detailed technical designs, and support engineering teams through implementation.
This person will be expected to be the technical authority within the team and the go-to individual for architectural and technical decisions.
Required Experience
Strong background as a Technical Architect, Lead Developer, Principal Developer, or similar role.
Ideally 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience.
Proven ability to operate as both an architect and a technical delivery lead.
Experience producing solution designs, technical diagrams, and low-level designs from business requirements.
Comfortable validating technical approaches through proof of concepts, project spikes, and architectural assessments.
Technology Environment
Preferred: Java Azure Cloud
Also Consider: Strong cloud experience from AWS or GCP backgrounds if technical depth is evident.
Current Technology Stack: Java Spring Boot GraphQL REST Services Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) MongoDB Angular knowledge is not considered important for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Translate business requirements into detailed technical and low-level solution designs.
Create architecture artefacts including Confluence documentation, diagrams, and solution design documents.
Provide technical leadership and direction to engineering teams.
Review and challenge proposed technical solutions.
Undertake proof-of-concept work and technical spikes to validate architectural decisions.
Support delivery teams with practical guidance on implementation approaches.
Attend stakeholder and project meetings, acting as the technical representative for the team.
Ensure architectural decisions are understood and successfully executed by engineering teams.

Credible technical leader with deep engineering experience.
Equally comfortable speaking with business stakeholders, architects, and developers.
Able to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and practical way.
Hands-on enough to understand the technology stack inside and out, whilst still operating at an architectural level.
Confident and proactive, with the ability to take ownership and become the recognised technical authority within the programme.
Capability Split
This role is approximately: 50% Architecture 50% Technical Leadership/Engineering Oversight
Whilst largely hands-off from a coding perspective, the individual must possess sufficient technical depth to direct engineers, challenge design decisions, and provide clear implementation guidance when required.
