Summary: The Android Engineer role focuses on developing mobile applications using Kotlin and Java, requiring strong expertise in Android SDK and UI design principles. The position involves collaborating with product and design teams to enhance user experience across various Android devices. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and possess relevant technical skills in mobile development. This is a contract position lasting 6 months or more, based in Leeds or London.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of Kotlin/Java
  • Strong knowledge of Android SDK, Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
  • Strong experience with Android frameworks, multi-module architecture, Jetpack Compose, dependency injection (eg, Dagger/Hilt), and asynchronous programming (eg, Coroutines)
  • Professional hands-on experience and working knowledge in designing a mobile experience for variable screen sizes in variable versions of Android phones and tablets
  • Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks and benchmarking and optimisation
  • Unit, UI and Snapshot Testing
  • Solid understanding of software architecture (MVVM), design patterns (SOLID, DRY) and best practices (specifically Google's Android design principles, interface guidelines)
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of interacting with RESTful APIs
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with Product and Design colleagues to drive outcomes for customers
  • A good understanding of Git, source code management and managing change
  • Knowledge and experience of agile development practices, continuous integration and test automation (eg TDD, BDD)
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
  • Experience of technical guidance and mentoring

The Role
Android Engineer Kotlin/Java

Your responsibilities: (Up to 10, Avoid repetition)

  • Excellent knowledge of Kotlin/Java
  • Strong knowledge of Android SDK, Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
