Summary: The role of AI Tools Strategy & Portfolio Management SME at HSBC involves overseeing the growth and governance of the Generative AI Coding Assistant program within the CTO DevOps team. The successful candidate will define AI tool strategies, manage the GenAI ecosystem, and ensure compliance and ethical use of AI tools. Key Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve the enterprise strategy for AI and GenAI developer tools.
- Align tool strategy with HSBC’s engineering, security, and digital transformation goals.
- Maintain oversight of the GenAI CA ecosystem, including tooling performance and feature evolution.
- Track KPIs, adoption metrics, and value realization across GenAI initiatives.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of new AI tools.
- Establish and enforce governance policies and responsible AI practices.
- Liaise with InfoSec, Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams.
- Serve as a central point of contact between CTO DevOps, engineering teams, and external vendors.
- Support the rollout of enablement initiatives and user training.
- Promote culture change for safe and effective AI usage.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in portfolio management, AI tooling strategy, or DevOps/platform engineering leadership.
- Strong understanding of developer ecosystems, SDLC, and enterprise engineering practices.
- Deep familiarity with GenAI coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot and Amazon CodeWhisperer.
- Experience in implementing governance frameworks, security controls, and compliance processes.

Job Description: We are seeking a highly experienced AI Tools Strategy & Portfolio Management SME to support the continued growth and governance of HSBC’s industry-leading Generative AI Coding Assistant (GenAI CA) program . This role sits within CTO DevOps , which provides foundational developer services to over 20,000 engineers globally. GenAI CAs—led by GitHub Copilot—represent the largest and fastest-scaling GenAI use case within HSBC , with 95% developer adoption and the highest number of engaged users globally , making HSBC GitHub’s largest enterprise customer by usage. The successful candidate will play a key role in sustaining this momentum while ensuring strategic alignment, value realization, and robust governance across the GenAI tooling portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- AI Tool Strategy & Roadmapping
- Define and evolve the enterprise strategy for AI and GenAI developer tools, with a focus on continued innovation and safe, scalable growth.
- Align tool strategy with HSBC’s wider engineering, security, and digital transformation goals.
- Portfolio Management
- Maintain oversight of the GenAI CA ecosystem, including tooling performance, feature evolution, and cross-program alignment.
- Track KPIs, adoption metrics, and value realization across all GenAI initiatives in the developer space.
- Tool Evaluation & Integration
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of new AI tools that complement or extend current capabilities (e.g., beyond GitHub Copilot to other AI-enhanced IDEs and platforms).
- Work closely with platform and engineering teams to drive secure, compliant integrations into HSBC’s development environments.
- Governance & Risk Management
- Establish and enforce governance policies and responsible AI practices.
- Liaise with InfoSec, Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams to ensure secure and ethical use of AI tooling at scale.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as a central point of contact between CTO DevOps, engineering teams, executive leadership, and external vendors (e.g., Microsoft/GitHub).
- Provide clear, data-driven insights and updates to stakeholders on program health and tooling ROI.
- Enablement & Change Management
- Support the rollout of enablement initiatives, user training, and communications to sustain adoption.
- Promote culture change across developer communities for safe and effective AI usage.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in portfolio management , AI tooling strategy , or DevOps/platform engineering leadership .
