Summary: The Adhesive & Sealant Engineer for Battery Enclosures will be responsible for the application of adhesives and sealants in battery enclosure projects, ensuring compliance with product specifications and quality standards. This role requires expertise in new product development, project execution, and process engineering related to adhesive materials. The engineer will also engage in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The position is based in Gaydon, UK, and operates on a fixed-term contract for 6-12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply strong knowledge in adhesive and sealant application for battery enclosures.
- Understand New Product Development (NPD) process and Project Execution.
- Review new and modified product designs for adhesive/sealant integration.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Plan dispensing equipment and tools, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Create purchase orders and manage transactions using SAP.
- Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Drive Immediate Containment Actions (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA).
- Support Prototype Build and Production Build activities.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Roles and Responsibility
- Strong knowledge in adhesive and sealant application for Battery Enclosures including adhesive application requirements (bead size, location, cure time, bond strength) for structural bonding, thermal interface materials, and sealing applications.
- Good understanding of New Product Development (NPD) process and Project Execution with expertise in Design & Development and Material Sourcing for adhesives and sealants.
- Knowledge of Operations, Process Engineering, Quality Control, Project Management, and Supply Chain Management & Build activity related to adhesive/sealant materials and application equipment.
- Ability to review new and modified product designs and process documentation for adhesive/sealant integration, ensuring manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and compliance with product and quality system requirements.
- Good knowledge of APQP process, PPAP, and PSW documentation for adhesive/sealant systems.
- Good knowledge of PFMEA, SPC, MSA, and GD&T for adhesive joints and sealing profiles.
- Good knowledge of development phases with DVP planning and execution for adhesive/sealant validation (lap shear, peel, environmental aging, NVH, water leak).
- Excellent problem-solving ability with strong commitment to quality and timely delivery.
- Skilled in issue resolution with expertise in root-cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and prevention of recurrence for adhesive/sealant defects (voids, poor adhesion, incomplete cure).
- Ensure product compliance to customer specifications and statutory & regulatory requirements.
- Planning of dispensing equipment, tools, fixtures, gauges , and completion of DAP with coordination of CFT team.
- Process design target setting for adhesive/sealant application and achieving targets as per program timelines.
- Creating purchase orders for dispensing machines, tools, fixtures, gauges and handling transactions using SAP.
- Creating part numbers adhesive/sealant materials in system and updating BOM.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and Fishbone Analysis to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to proactively identify and mitigate potential design risks.
- Manage Rework Identification System (RIS) processes to ensure timely resolution of production issues.
- Drive Immediate Containment Actions (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA) for quality and reliability improvements.
- Support Prototype Build and Production Build activities, ensuring alignment with design intent and manufacturing feasibility.
- Able to support builds in plants in the Midlands.
- Good communication and presentation skills for cross-functional and supplier interactions.
