Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly psychological screening appointments with clients in vulnerable roles.
  • Facilitate support groups focused on various mental health topics.
  • Provide crisis counselling based on individual case needs.
  • Deliver trauma interventions for major and critical incidents.
  • Manage own caseload, delivering short-term counselling for clients with personal or work-related issues.
  • Provide intermittent, longer-term support to suspended officers.
  • Advise managers about counselling services and manage a duty mailbox for urgent assessments.
  • Conduct psychological risk assessments for referrals and act according to MPS risk management protocols.
  • Offer practical problem-solving guidance and signpost to external agencies or internal teams.
  • Assess officers' needs and monitor interventions using evidence-based practices.
  • Perform any additional duties to support the duty team.

Key Skills:

  • BACP Accreditation (or equivalent).
  • Experience in substance misuse (advantageous).
  • Ability to conduct psychological risk assessments and work autonomously.
  • Experience in delivering a brief counselling model.
  • Understanding of IAPT measurement forms.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
  • At least 3 years' experience in counselling services or related fields.
  • CBT training (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in delivering trauma-focused counselling.
