Summary: The Accounting Technician role involves providing technical financial support within a newly established organization, focusing on delivering high-quality financial services while contributing to the development of systems and processes. This part-time position, based in Penrith, offers hybrid working arrangements and the potential for permanent opportunities. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Manager and play a key role in ensuring accurate and compliant financial data management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations accurately and efficiently
  • Manage payroll journals and reconcile PAYE, national insurance, and pension accounts
  • Support accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoices and queries
  • Assist with the development and improvement of financial systems and processes
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on financial procedures and systems
  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with audit requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to continuous improvement

Key Skills:

  • Recognised accounting qualification (ideally AAT, or equivalent experience)
  • Experience delivering core accounting tasks (eg reconciliations, journals, reporting, year-end)
  • Good understanding of financial controls, audit requirements, and compliance
  • Strong Excel skills (eg VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas)
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Experience working with financial systems (QuickBooks experience advantageous)
