Job Advert Post : Tobacco Control Project Manager- Hospital Sites and Policy

Tenure : 2 years Fixed Term 1.0wte

Salary : AfC Band 6

Base : NHS Lothian wide- travel required

The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland. The department is organised around Population Health and Health Protection.

The post-holders will work within a Population Health Team which involves place-based working focusing on partnership, prevention, and inequalities. The post holder will be responsible for working within hospital settings across Lothians with key stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate health improvement and inequalities focused on tobacco control plan. An understanding of hospital sites and staffing structures is desirable.

The role has budget and line management responsibilities. Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable illness and premature death. Reducing the harms from smoking is a key priority for Scotland as we work towards a smokefree nation over the next decade.

NHS Lothian is seeking a dynamic individual to join the Quit Your Way team and help us improve our performance to support people to quit smoking and live longer lives in better health. There is framework of actions for you to lead on in this role and drive quality improvement; for example, being responsible for updating, developing and driving the Smoke Free Grounds Policy and associated activities.

Transferable knowledge and skills are key. An understanding of wider health improvement principles and practice or experience of related issues and policy is required. A sound understanding of tobacco control is helpful but can be gained over time as you progress in the role.

Leading the development of the hospital work and improving outcomes will be the initial focus of the full time post. Establishing productive relationships with a range of stakeholders is key to increasing successful engagement with cessation services.

The post is full time and leads the Lothian wide hospitals team, with staff based in four hospital sites, as well as contributing to the wider NHS Lothian tobacco control effort.

The Roles Requires the ability to lead, influence and inspire your team to ensure they work cohesively a motivational skillset that supports and encourages your team to adopt new approaches and embrace change you to have astute problem solving and negotiation skills with a solution focused approach to resolve difficult or complex issues problems internally and externally with partner agencies

Leading, developing and delivering training, to not only pharmacy, but wider information sessions.
