Key Responsibilities:

  • Defining and maintaining the defect management process.
  • Establishing procedures for logging, prioritizing, assigning, resolving, retesting, and closing defects.
  • Monitoring compliance with the defined process across all teams (QA, BA, Developers).
  • Overseeing the entire lifecycle of identified defects from logging to closure.
  • Ensuring accurate status management of defects.
  • Identifying and escalating critical/long-standing defects to stakeholders.
  • Assessing newly raised defects for adherence to standards and best practices.
  • Proactively tracking estimated fixed dates (EFDs) and challenging stakeholders.
  • Maintaining clear defect commentary for easy understanding.
  • Facilitating triage meetings with cross-functional teams and 3rd party stakeholders.
  • Guiding discussions for impact assessment of defects.
  • Ensuring appropriate prioritization of defects based on business impact and risk.
  • Producing clear defect reports for daily analysis.

Testing Defect Manager

My client, a large consultancy, is in need of a Testing Defect Manager for a 6 month contract opportunbity inside IR35 based in Horsham, offering 2 days per week remote but requiring 3 days per week on-site.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Defect Process Ownership and Governance for big testing program, with multi vendor teams, Defining and maintaining the defect management process, establishing procedures for how defects are logged, prioritized, assigned, resolved, retested and closed across all programme workstreams, Monitoring compliance with the defined process across all teams (QA, BA, Developers), Defect Lifecycle Management, Overseeing the entire lifecycle of all identified defects from their initial logging to final closure, Status management, ensuring the defects statues are accurately updated and reflect the current state of each issue, Identifying and escalating critical/long standing defects that are not progressing as expected to appropriate stakeholders/management, Assessing newly raised defects have been raised to the correct standards, following the best practices. For example, the defect contains a clear and concise title, clear replication steps on how to produce the defects, actual vs expected results, severity and priority levels, including screenshots/log files that help illustrate the defect, Proactively tracking estimated fixed dates (EFDs) and challenging key stakeholders where EFDs have not been met, Including and maintaining clear and concise defect commentary, ensuring anyone reviewing the defect can immediately understand the nature of the problem without needing further clarification, Defect Triage and Prioritisation, Facilitating triage meetings, organizing and leading regular/daily meetings with cross functional teams and 3rd party stakeholders (Development leads, QA leads, PM) to review new defects, Impact assessment, guiding discussions to assess severity, impact and the urgency of defects, Periodisation, ensuring the defects are assigned appropriate priorities based on business impact and risk, Able to produce Clear and crisp defect reports for daily analysis.
