Summary: The Stress Engineer role is a 6-month contract position based in Filton, focusing on Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT) within the Aerospace sector. The successful candidate will collaborate with design and static stress engineers to perform F&DT analysis and provide technical guidance. This position offers an opportunity to work with a leading Defence and Aerospace company, contributing to the development of repair designs and processes. Candidates should have relevant engineering experience and a background in F&DT analysis of aircraft structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing F&DT analysis and compiling justification reports for repair designs.
- Working closely with Design and Static Stress engineers to develop optimum repairs.
- Providing technical guidance and support to internal teams, including offshore teams and suppliers.
- Leading packages of work and integrating with Design and Static Stress teams for major incidents or complex activities.
- Developing methods and processes for repair analysis to enhance the analysis capability of repair teams.
- Providing support to the repair team on structures such as Fuselage, Empennage, and High-Lift devices.
Key Skills:
- Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) and relevant engineering experience.
- An Aerospace F&DT engineering background.
- Experience in F&DT analysis of aircraft structures using various processes, methods, and toolsets (ISAMI, GISEH).
- Experience generating Technical Dossiers/Reports.
- Technical understanding of metallic and composite structures with an emphasis on F&DT analysis.
- Understanding of fundamental methods of fatigue and damage tolerance analysis.
- Knowledge of airworthiness regulations.
- Ability to assess how repair design affects the F&DT of aircraft structures.
- Strong negotiation and liaison skills with Design, Customer Services, and suppliers.

You will be involved in:
- Performing F&DT analysis and compiling justification reports for repair designs and working closely with skilled Design and Static Stress engineers to develop optimum repairs
- Providing technical guidance and support to the internal teams, including the offshore teams, and any suppliers as required
- Where necessary, leading packages of work, and integrating with Design and Static Stress teams for a major incident or complex activities
- Developing methods and processes for repair analysis, working with method experts and tool owners to enhance the analysis capability of the repair teams
- Providing support to the repair team on other structure perimeters such as Fuselage, Empennage, High-Lift devices, etc.
Your skillset may include:
- Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) and relevant engineering experience
- An Aerospace F&DT engineering background
- Experience in F&DT analysis of aircraft structures using a range of processes, methods, and toolsets (ISAMI, GISEH) and experience generating Technical Dossiers/Reports
- Technical understanding of metallic and composite structures with an emphasis on F&DT analysis
- An understanding of the fundamental methods of fatigue and damage tolerance analysis
- Understanding of the airworthiness regulations
- An understanding and ability to decide on how the repair design affects the F&DT of aircraft structure
- Ability to liaise/negotiate with Design, Customer Services, and suppliers
