Summary: Rubicon Consulting is seeking a Site Manager for a 6-month rolling contract in Somerset, responsible for overseeing substation works for major utility projects. The role requires an experienced supervisor or manager with a focus on civil, mechanical, and electrical installations on HV infrastructure. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with safety regulations and manage subcontractors effectively. Strong knowledge of UK utility standards and site safety practices is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full site management of substation construction and installation works
  • Ensure compliance with SR163 (or progression toward authorisation) and site safety rules
  • Lead and coordinate subcontractors across civil works (foundations, ducting, structures), mechanical installation (steelwork, transformers), and electrical installation (HV equipment, cabling)
  • Deliver works in line with programme, budget, and quality standards
  • Chair daily briefings, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings
  • Manage permits, RAMS, and ensure safe systems of work are followed
  • Act as the main point of contact between client, contractors, and site teams
  • Monitor progress, resolve issues, and escalate risks where required
  • Support commissioning activities and handover

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager or Senior Supervisor on HV substation projects (132kV–400kV)
  • Strong knowledge of UK utility standards and site safety practices
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams on live or near-live substations
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
  • CSCS (Black or Gold card preferred)
  • Ability to manage RAMS, permits, and site documentation
  • SR163 authorisation or working toward it (desirable)
  • Experience on projects involving Siemens Energy or similar OEMs (desirable)
  • National Grid or DNO project experience (desirable)
  • Temporary Works Coordinator / Appointed Person tickets (desirable)
  • NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification (desirable)

Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Site Manager on a 6 month rolling contract, based in Somerset

Working on behalf of a major utility or contractor (e.g. National Grid projects), the Site Manager will take full responsibility for the safe and efficient delivery of substation works. This includes civil, mechanical, and electrical installation activities on HV infrastructure.

The role is suited to an experienced supervisor or manager either holding SR163 authorisation or actively working toward it.
