Summary: This role is for an Interim Finance Business Partner/Senior Project Accountant on a fixed-term contract of up to 6 months, focusing on a large-scale housing transformation programme. The position requires an experienced finance professional to lead financial preparations for a transition to a unified operating model in a public sector environment. The successful candidate will have autonomy in shaping financial processes and ensuring operational readiness. This role is hybrid, based in Somerset, and reports to the Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial readiness for the transition to a unified operating model.
  • Design, configure, and implement financial systems, processes, and controls to support go-live.
  • Ensure robust governance, reporting, and budget management frameworks are in place.
  • Support finance system changes, including configuration and optimisation.
  • Develop and maintain chart of accounts structures aligned to the new operating model.
  • Deliver accurate reconciliations, financial controls, and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across finance, housing, and operational teams.
  • Support cutover planning and ensure a smooth transition to the new model.
  • Provide post-go-live support to stabilise financial operations and ensure continuity of service delivery.

Key Skills:

  • CCAB-qualified accountant (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Strong financial accounting experience within local government, housing, ALMO, or similar public sector environment.
  • Proven track record supporting finance system changes, restructures, or organisational transitions.
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial controls, reconciliations, reporting, and chart of accounts design.
  • Experience working within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to work at pace and deliver within a time-limited, project-focused role.
  • Strong to advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with Civica Financials (highly desirable).
