Summary: The Senior Java Backend Developer role is based in London and involves working with a major multinational financial institution. The position focuses on developing reliable, scalable products while ensuring system reliability and security. Candidates are expected to have strong experience with relational databases and Kafka, along with a solid understanding of REST APIs. This is a hybrid contract position with a duration of one year and a competitive daily rate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply domain modelling and scalable architecture to build reliable, best-in-class products without single points of failure.
- Develop secure, understandable code that's easy to test, evolve, and optimised for data handling and performance.
- Ensure zero-downtime releases, system reliability, and ease of operations through proactive monitoring and issue resolution.
- Promptly investigate, fix, and prevent issues from resurfacing, whilst supporting products across their full lifecycle.
- Continuously update technologies, patterns, and solutions to maintain security and protect against malicious actors.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL or CockroachDB).
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, including Avro or JSON messaging.
- Solid understanding of database migration, transactions, and normalization.
- Experience working outside the financial services domain.
- Proven experience building REST APIs and understanding of high-level design (HLD).
