Summary: The role of SENCO at a large Co-ed Secondary School in Merton involves leading the SEN provision to ensure high-quality support for pupils with diverse learning needs. The SENCO will collaborate with teachers and support staff, manage Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), and ensure compliance with SEND regulations. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, along with a commitment to inclusion and student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate SEN provision across the school.
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to implement effective strategies for children with diverse learning needs.
- Develop and manage Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Liaise with parents, carers, external agencies, and local authorities.
- Lead and support a team of teaching assistants and SEN staff.
- Ensure compliance with SEND regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Monitor and assess pupils' progress, adapting support strategies as needed.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience in SEN teaching.
- National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to work towards it).
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice.
- Experience developing and implementing EHCPs and IEPs.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to inclusion and supporting every child to reach their full potential.
- Valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
