Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and management of safety cases for compliant facility operations.
  • Conduct hazard and risk assessments, including FMEA, HAZOP, and ALARP studies.
  • Perform Deterministic and Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSA).
  • Integrate safety principles into engineering designs and systems.
  • Represent the business in technical meetings and contribute to discussions.
  • Provide nuclear safety input to design projects and bidding.
  • Develop hazard management strategies and author radiological safety assessments.
  • Produce and check calculations, analyses, and technical reports.
  • Participate in HAZID / HAZOP studies and manage project delivery.
  • Maintain an overview of technical and safety case strategies and share best practices.
  • Serve as a Company technical representative in external settings.
  • Report regularly to the Functional Leader and undertake special duties as required.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in safety case management, ideally in a nuclear environment.

The OpportunityAs an experienced Safety Case Consultant, you will have the chance to join a dynamic team with vast experience in Safety Case Management and provide professionally competent specialist services to our many clients. In this role, you’ll be involved in a range of exciting projects throughout the entire nuclear lifecycle – from next-generation systems to the operation of existing nuclear facilities. You'll play a key part in ensuring the safe operation of facilities and systems, collaborating with teams on national and international projects.

This role has been deemed inside IR35

Duration:  12 Months

Location: Various | Bristol, Warrington, Newbury, Cumbria

Your duties and responsibilities will beYou will need to have experience in a safety case related role, ideally in a nuclear environment and have the gravitas to work within a multi-disciplinary team. We would also like you to have all or some experience with the below duties;

  • Supporting the development and management of safety cases to ensure safe and compliant facility operations.
  • Conducting hazard and risk assessments, including FMEA, HAZOP, and ALARP studies.
  • Performing Deterministic and Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSA).
  • Integrating safety principles into engineering designs and systems.
  • Representing the business in technical meetings with stakeholders and contributing to technical discussions.
  • Where required, providing the nuclear safety input to design projects and bidding
  • Develop hazard management strategies
  • Author radiological safety assessments, including Hazard Management Strategy, Safety Reports (PSRs and PCSRs etc. and equivalents)
  • Producing, and checking calculations, analyses, design basis documentation and technical reports.
  • Providing formal responses to comments raised at the various approval stages
  • Participating in HAZID / HAZOP studies.
  • Managing delivery for the work undertaken by the Supply Chain as appropriate and maintain an overview of progress against cost and programme, and the management of project risks, for the work undertaken within their agreed remit
  • To maintain an overview of technical and safety case strategies being delivered, and the key arguments used, to share ‘best practice’ between projects
  • To serve as a Company technical representative in external settings, where required.
  • Reporting regularly to the Functional Leader.
  • Undertaking any special duties as may be specified from time to time by the Functional Leader.

The setting for the roleRisks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
