Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the technical architecture across the programme, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to NHS standards and frameworks
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams, setting direction on tooling, patterns, and best practice
  • Design and oversee cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring high availability, performance, and security
  • Drive Java-based development standards and architectural decisions across the codebase
  • Engage with NHS stakeholders and third party suppliers to align technical approaches with programme requirements
  • Identify and manage technical risk, producing documentation and recommendations to support governance and assurance processes
  • Support technical onboarding of new team members and suppliers
  • Contribute to technical planning, roadmaps, and delivery timelines

  • Strong Java and architecture background, with experience leading Java-based programmes at scale
  • Deep AWS expertise across core services and well-architected principles
  • Proven experience as a Technical Architect on complex digital programmes

  • Experience working within government or NHS security and compliance frameworks
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote environment

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Brio Digital are supporting a consultancy on a major NHS digital programme and are looking for an experienced Technical Architect to play a key role in shaping and driving the technical direction of a complex, large-scale delivery. This is a senior position requiring someone who can operate confidently at both a strategic and hands-on level, bringing together architecture, engineering, and stakeholder management in a fast-paced NHS environment.
