Summary: The SEND Resolution and Tribunal Officer will support a local authority in the East of England by facilitating the early resolution of disputes related to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role involves representing the local authority during mediations and tribunals while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The position is fully remote and is offered as a 3-month initial contract. The successful candidate will have a strong background in SEND legislation and experience in local authority representation at SEND tribunals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee appeals to First-tier tribunal ensuring timely responses within legal deadlines.
  • Facilitate mediations to resolve disputes about provision without the need for a formal hearing where possible.
  • Represent the Local Authority by preparing for and attending formal mediations and actioning any follow up activity.

Key Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation including the SEND Code of Practice and Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Proven experience in representing local authorities at SEND Tribunals.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working within Local Authority SEND.
  • Proven negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Ability to manage and maintain up to date and accurate records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to handle sensitive conversations with parents, carers, schools, and professionals.

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Resolution and Tribunal Officer to support our local authority client in the East of England with the early resolution of disputes relating to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The SEND Resolution and Tribunal Officer will be required to represent the local authority during mediations and tribunals, ensuring that they fulfil all statutory requirements.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation including the SEND Code of Practice and Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Proven experience in representing local authorities at SEND Tribunals.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working within Local Authority SEND.
