Summary: The Platform Accessibility Tester will support a UK university in enhancing the accessibility and usability of their digital learning platforms. This role involves rigorous testing of web platforms and applications to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA and EAA standards, while improving the user experience for all learners, especially those using assistive technologies. The position requires collaboration with internal teams and the drafting of accessibility statements and reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accessibility guidelines and experience with various assistive technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform rigorous accessibility testing of web platforms, learning systems, and applications using both semi-automated and manual methods.
  • Apply assistive technologies such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), screen magnifiers, and keyboard navigation to replicate real user experiences.
  • Identify barriers to accessibility and provide clear, actionable recommendations for improvements.
  • Draft high-quality accessibility statements and testing reports for internal and external use.
  • Collaborate with internal development teams to support the remediation of accessibility issues and validate implemented fixes.
  • Assist in training or knowledge-sharing sessions with internal teams on accessibility standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Prioritise testing activities based on platform traffic, risk, and user impact.

Key Skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines (EAA knowledge highly desirable).
  • Experience conducting both manual and automated accessibility audits using tools such as Microsoft Insights, Axe, WAVE, etc.
  • Familiarity with a range of assistive technologies including JAWS, NVDA, ZoomText, or VoiceOver.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting accessibility testing across various browsers, devices, and platforms.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in drafting reports and accessibility statements.
  • Ability to collaborate with developers and product teams to ensure recommended improvements are implemented effectively.
  • Prior experience in the Higher Education sector or working with education-related platforms is desirable.
  • Familiarity with tools and systems such as Moodle VLE, SITS, Salesforce, Blackbaud, and common CMS platforms.

They are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Platform Accessibility Tester to support the development and improvement of their digital systems. You will work closely with the Senior Accessibility Manager to ensure that all platforms, applications, and web interfaces comply with WCAG 2.2 AA and EAA standards, while also enhancing the user experience for all learners, particularly those using assistive technologies.
