Summary: The Marine Engineering Submariner (MESM) role involves supporting the Royal Navy in their training transformation by gathering technical data and collaborating with courseware developers. Key Responsibilities:
- Work with customers and suppliers to identify technical data for courseware development.
- Conduct upkeep, updates, and revalidation of course technical data.
- Collaborate with courseware developers to contextualize training and ensure standards are met.
- Participate in the analysis, design, maintenance, review, and production of DSAT Documentation.
- Interview subject matter experts to gather necessary data and participate in workshops.
- Identify opportunities to enhance training methods and media for courseware development.
Key Skills:
- Proven at sea experience as a Cat A or Cat B Nuclear watchkeeper.
- Electrical background (preferred but not essential).
- Experience with PWR 2 (preferred but not essential).
- Knowledge of forward marine engineering duties (preferred but not essential).
- Experience in training requirements, design, or delivery (preferred but not essential).
- Membership in a Boat Build Crew DE&S/SDA (preferred but not essential).

Our client is supporting the Royal Navy in their training transformation journey and is looking for a Marine Engineering Submariner (MESM) subject matter expert (SME) to work with the Navy to gather technical data. You will need to have been a CAT A or B Nuclear Watchkeeper to be considered for this role, ideally with an electrical bias.
Working Patterns and location – This role is remote with occasional travel to Reading (expensed).
The Key Responsibilities of a Marine Engineering Submariner:
- Work with the customer and the customer’s agents and suppliers to identify technical data required for courseware and media development and also external routes to obtain the data.
- Conduct the upkeep, update and revalidation of course technical data.
- Work with the courseware and media content developers to contextualise training and language and ensure correct conditions and standards are applied to the training solution.
- Work as a member of the wider team responsible for the analysis, design, maintenance, review and production of DSAT Documentation and processes for customer’s training sites and organisations.
- Interviewing subject matter experts to collate required data, participate in internal workshops to discuss and agree findings from analysis.
- Identify where training methods and media currently in use in the Customer may be exploited to better develop and deliver the Programme’s courseware.
Below is a list of Key Skills required for a Marine Engineering Submariner, however you will not be expected to have everything:
- Proven at sea experience as a Cat A or Cat B Nuclear watchkeeper.
- The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
- PWR 2.
- Electrical Background.
- Fwd ME duties.
- Training requirements, design or delivery.
- Member of a Boat Build Crew DE&S/SDA.
